We now have a 'real' store in Moshi! It is called Nakumatt and it is even air conditioned. I would compare it to Big-Lots with a food section. There is also a little cafe outside called Kili Java that sells coffee, tea, soda and light meals so Ray and I visit there once a week and we call it our weekly outing. We go to Kili Java for lunch and then walk around Nakumatt enjoying the A/C! Sure beats sitting at home in the heat with no power!
There is also a new hotel called the Nyumbani that has a restuarant inside and yes it has air conditioning also! So guess where I asked Ray to take me for Valentines dinner. It is a very clean and cool atmosphere and the food is good. To make the evening special they decorated our salad using a tea-light candle inside a cored tomatoe so it gave a nice red glow. Very creative! The waiter gave us both a rose and we enjoyed a cold Coca-Cola with our meal. The evening was a unexpected blessing. I posted a few pictures from our Valentines Dinner in our Photo Gallery.
Sound a bit crazy? Since being here we realize there are so many things that we took for granted when we lived in the states but here even little things are great blessings for us! Not running out of water, getting a good rain, a nice breeze, being able to find an item that you need in one of the shops and being able to cook something in the oven without the power going out! And yes...we still shout 'Bwana Asifiwe, when our power comes on and at times even do a little dance. We are truly thankful for our daily blessings and don't take anything here for granted.
